A parachute that failed to open sent 20 year old Mary Rock “Peaches” La Mar 1,500 feet to her death when she leaped from the plane “Misfortune” here today before 1,000 persons attending a Legion celebration. (It is believed that “Misfortune” was piloted by her brother)

Evelyn Holman was scheduled to make the jump which proved fatal to Miss La Mar but, on being taken aloft developed a case of nerves and asked to be brought down. Miss La Mar who had made a jump on Friday, then went up in place of Miss Holman.
